Wisconsin Olympians

Posted February 9, 2010

On the show today I cover a list of Olympic athletes from Wisconsin. Opening ceremonies on Friday night and I'm psyched for the games to begin.

We've got PhilCast reporter Bill Schultz at the airport in Indy interviewing Colts' fans arriving home from the Super Bowl game as well.

And then there's the story of the guy who made a big mistake with garlic in the kitchen....he's hoping to win the PhilCast cooking contest this month with his entry.

"Super" ads? Bah....

Posted February 8, 2010

We review Super Bowl commercials...share a recipe...and hear cooking show entries on today's show.

Here is the picture I mention at one point in the show...

Intern Dan's cousin working on the halftime show.

I wasn't impressed with the ads or the halftime show, but I DID like the game and several things about it.

Super Bowl Special

Posted February 5, 2010

It's the PhilCast Super Bowl Special on Friday, featuring all things Super Bowl.

--My plan for watching--eating--drinking on Sunday.

--Predictions from some of my media friends on the 888-414-PHIL line...people like Mark Reardon, Cheri Preston, Jon Belmont, Doug Russell, Susan Kim, Rob Hart....

--Play the Super Bowl triva game along with me.

--Hear the infamous Super Bowl phone call from 1990...funniest damn thing I have ever been a part of on live radio! That's the flashback on FlashBack Friday.

Other biz...

*Give the 888-414-PHIL line a call after the game and before 10:00 a.m. Monday to leave your feedback on what you thought were the best and worst commercials during the game.

*Mail in your cooking contest entries before the 22nd

phil@thephilcast.com

*If you have Road Runner (a .rr email account) you are probably not going to get the PhilCast Folder newsletter of the week. RR is blocking the IP....working on trying to get that right for you but it has been tough sledding. If you have another account that would be an easy way around it...just mail me the change in your address and we'll get it on the list.

A stapler in Jello?

Posted February 4, 2010

Yes indeed, a stapler in jello photo...and it comes from a listener who included the photo as part of her entry into the February cooking contest.

You can hear this entry and others today on the PhilCast. You can enter by mailing me your kitchen/cooking story at phil@thephilcast.com

Lips LaBelle joins me for the Thursday nosh, now for the month of February officially called "The Thursday Nosh With Grasch" since Grasch's on North is sponsoring the segment and all our 'nosh' material will come from that great store.

Lips has a nice little tip for those of you driving Toyota's on the recall list with the accelerator problem.

And CLICK HERE to read the entertainment news we talk about on today's show.

On Friday I am going to be doing a Super Bowl Special...with some celeb predictions on the phone and featuring what I think is my favorite moment of alllllll my time on the radio....it has to do with the Super Bowl.

Child Please

Posted February 3, 2010

On the Wednesday show I talk about Media Day at the SuperBowl and the new OCNN coverage. Maybe I should apply for a job there? I also have my Brett and Elway story from when I was there in San Diego.

Here is the Team USA hockey helmet I love too...

Way cool. It should be the New England Patriots helmet if the NFL would allow it.

Groundhog PHIL

Posted February 2, 2010

It's all about the shadow today on the PhilCast. Sure that little beast in PA has a cool name, but you know what we have here in Milwaukee? We have WALDO and the 102-year tradition that is the Milwaukee Ground Hog Club. And today they brought us an event in front of hundreds of smiling kids, put together with Wildlife In Need. And the PhilCast was there to capture it all for you. Listen on the show, and here are the photos to go with it...

Rough Weekend

Posted February 1, 2010

It's a LONG PhilCast Monday as I run through all the things that made this past weekend 'interesting' for me, from my fall off the 'healthy eating wagon' to the winners and losers of weekend TV events.

I recorded some interviews at the Multi-Sport Expo on Saturday. Here is a photo of the rider I interviewed while he was taking part in a team time trial...

And here is the tri-athlete I talk about in the pool...

Miss America Saturday and I talk all about Wisconsin's hope for the crown...

misswisconsin.jpg Miss Wisconsin picture by cianciola67

Miss Wisconsin, Kristina Smaby

I also talk about how I was drawn into watching beauty contests way back when.

Before that it's the "State of the PhilCast" speech, during which I reveal some info about the future of the show.

Also Friday...Why the heck does a guy nicknamed the Flyin' Tomata need a new nickname...discussed in our Olympic Moment of the showgrum. We flash back on FlashBack Friday to an old Don Vogel bit where we were covering the assassination of the groundhog.

More calls have come into the show, including one about a tow truck driver who received an interesting tip!

Then the show ends with a guest in the recording lounge drawing the winner of the January contest!

Happy Weekend.

"A total waste of time"

Posted January 28, 2010

Yeah! Turns out that was sort of the theme of this Thursday's "Nosh With Lips" in the recording lounge. That's because that's one of the funny stories Lips tells on the show today...about how (AND WHERE!) Lips dad delivered that line about the PhilCast.

Here is the picture I mention at the start of the show...Lips at the newly-set-up Nosh center!

lipscommissary.jpg Lips nosh picture by cianciola67

Low-budget all the way but good nosh

Stick around for the end of the show when he drops another funny little bombshell on us.

In between it's some mail from listeners and a few calls from you as well...then Lips usual Thursday segment of entertainment news.

Also, click here for more info about the MCO event he talks about on the PhilCast today.

I'm a Luger

Posted January 27, 2010

Sung to the tune of the Beatles "I'm a Loser", today I play an 80's classic Olympic parody song by Steve Dahl called "I'm a Luger" that cracks me up every time I hear it. It's all part of my Olympic moment today when I talk about the Flyin' Tomato and snowboarding terms.

Also today, football predictions on Brett and the Super Bowl from Steve the Barber.

We listen to some calls, including one from Mark Reardon in St. Louis.

Again, that number to call and leave a message for the show (for now anyway) is 1-866-612-7810

Weigh-In Wednesday calls, and despite turning my back on what Sandy was eating last night.....ya gotta listen!
